Igoumenitsa - Istanbul

A Permanent event intended as a continuation of the CALAIS-BRINDISI Permanent, from the Adriatic to the Bosphorus and the gateway to Asia, following in part the route of the old Roman road to Byzantium, the Via Egnatia, so continuing the same theme of following historic lines of communication. At Randonneur standard in 6 days, ie. 6 x 200km. The ride may be undertaken at any time of the year in either direction. The route sheet is "advisory" between controls. The brevet booklet must be rubber-stamped at each control location indicated, provided the name of the control location is shown. The request for a stamp in Greek and Turkish is printed in the brevet booklet. Stamps can usually be obtained in cafés, hotels, garages, stations and possibly border crossing points (if the officials are friendly and don't seek a bribe!) If no stamp is available then a till receipt will suffice. If not, a selfie showing the control location and time and date. Entries to the organiser at least ONE month in advance. Completed brevet booklets must be sent to the organiser within TWO weeks of the end of the ride. Successful riders at Randonneur standard may claim 12 points towards the AUK championship awards.
