Whittington Castle

A pleasant day out with cafe stops planned at Whixall Marina and the wonderful Whittington Castle (the only community owned castle in the UK), make sure you check the cafe's opening times if you intend to use them. The route starts / finishes at the traffic lights in Nantwich at the top of Welsh Row where the bridge crosses the River Weaver so local parking and shop are available for you before and after the event. The route is not particularly hilly but there is a 12km drag from Bangor on Dee to Malpas (1% overall, max 6%) which does seem to go one for a while, however Malpas is a nice ancient market town and you have to stop to control so you could rest a while if you have time in hand. Whittington Castle is particularly nice with a small cafe that is really good. Validation by GPS or E-Brevet only. E-Brevet allows you to pick the route up at any point. E-Brevet also allows you to ride the route in the opposite direction (it is your responsibility to correct the route with regard to one way streets and going around roundabouts the right way and evaluate any additional risks etc if you reverse the route). NOTE 1. Approx 2.5km after crossing the A41 you turn right at a T-Junction opposite St Chad's Church, the next 300m is a steep downhill into Prees , at the crossroads there is a mandatory Stop sign so you need to descend at a suitable speed to be able to come to a complete stop at the junction https://ridewithgps.com/routes/41940926
