Start Location; Salamanca Place Hobart, Tasmania 7000 Australia This 50 km ride starts at the famous Salamanca market. From here you follow some quieter roads out of the Hobart CBD, onto the lovely Hobart Rivulet Track which is only a few km from the CBD but is a full-on bushland setting (some easy unsealed sections), and then the Mount Wellington pinnacle will be in full view in front of you. The climb is tough and relentless, but the views along the way, and from the top are unforgettable. Be fully prepared for all seasons in one day. The weather on the pinnacle can change suddenly. You can get water in the Wellington Park BBQ facilities directly across from the Ferntree Tavern, further along at The Springs (740m ASL), and further along at The Chalet (1000m ASL) as well as toilet facilities at the very top (1,200m ASL). Be very careful of the narrow mountain road (Pillinger Drive) with often heavy tourist traffic. Descend precipitously back to Ferntree, and further on turn right into Chimney Pot Road, heading towards aptly named Ridgeway, then a further precipitous drop along the also aptly named Waterworks Road. From here you are taken through parts of Battery Point and the Hobart docks before returning to Salamanca for a well earnt beer at one of the many local pubs. Because of the numerous turns it is strongly suggested you take some form of GPS if you are not familiar with the ride. Bonne route. Checkpoints:
