Cross the Adelaide Plains to Balaklava. Then skirt the ranges through Blyth, Brinkworth, Koolunga and Redhill to Crystal Brook. Now the the climbing starts! Firstly to Gladstone. Then easy riding along the scenic Rocky River Valley. Pass through little villages to Booleroo Centre. Finally the turn around and your sleep stop at Orroroo. Start day two with a great ride down another valley in the Southern Flinders to little Appila and a bit further to Jamestown for Breaky. Be ready now for some climbing. Up to the highest point in the 600km, followed by some great views as you ride down to Hallet, gazing across to yet more ranges beyond. Ride down the iconic Highway to the outback - Broken Hill. Follow the valley as you roll gently down-hill, on new bitumen, to Burra. Lunch-time at the popular bakery in the main street. Plenty to choose from. Then across to the Clare Valley as you by-pass little Farrell Flat on your left. A couple pinches between Burra and Clare! You should be in Clare by about 3pm. So still plenty of daylight as you explore the Clare Valley before sunset (in summer). Just the last section of the Barrier Highway to negotiate to Willaston BP for dinner. Then the easy ride back along the bike path to the end.
